"Developing Ready Leaders for the Front-line"
The presentation provides an overview of the background, development, and implementation of The Apprentice School’s Frontline Foreman Accelerated Skills Training (FAST) program. Using the program as a backdrop, participants will be exposed to techniques for designing a cost effective leadership development program that utilizes existing traditions and cultural strengths, employs a blended learning approach, and intrinsically cultivates support from middle and upper management. Connections will also be made to process design for the identification and development of high-potential employees for specific career paths.

1: Designing a “Vector Program”: Participants will learn about the advantage of identifying organizational strengths that can be utilized as foundation elements for designing programs that respond to development needs and enhance organizational effectiveness. They will learn how to balance the use of existing program design approaches with the implementation of new methods that encourage innovation and improve alignment between learning objectives and on-the-job applications.
2: Applying the Blended Learning Approach: Using the Frontline FAST developmental process as an example, participants will learn how to apply blended formal and informal learning experiences to program design. They will learn how to use a community of practice approach that connects individual and socially interactive activities with workplace experiences and networking.
3: Cultivating Natural Support: Participants will learn how to take advantage of existing organizational structure and relationships to build natural support for the design and implementation of a program. They will learn how to incorporate unobtrusive elements that promote sponsorship from company leadership and establish formal and informal connections with key individuals responsible for employee development.

Mr. Kinney was awarded for his performance and leadership by the Virginia Department of Labor, Virginia Apprenticeship Council, the Virginia Apprenticeship Alumni Association, George Washington University, The Apprentice School and have earned corporate honors for teamwork, leadership development and program management.
Currently, he manages The Apprentice School's front-line supervisor leadership development program, teach business management and leadership, team-based problem solving, communication and public speaking classes, and spend the balance of my time supporting academic initiatives, designing and facilitating leadership development interactions, and serving as an advisor/consultant to students, faculty and management.
