Food Truck for Thought Series (Lunch and Learn)

It's lunch time and employees are usually starving to eat. Many employees are starving for knowledge as well. Why not feed their minds too? Come join SEVA ATD at our Food Truck for Thought Lunch and Learn Series.

In these 30 min sessions, we explore various topics of career and professional development strategies, how you can increase your own personal engagement and motivate yourself to learn as well.

These "free lunch" time series are informal training or development sessions that take place while you eat, and in return for your time and participation we will give away two free lunch gift cards ($10 value).

Simply click the registration link here and join us on Zoom from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm on the first and third Wednesday in the months of April - May. You will receive the Zoom Link in the meeting reminder emails of the each events. Check out each sessions lunch topic on our social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter).

Oh and bring your lunch too!

    Session Description

"Cultural Competence" is the ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures. As leaders, it is important to demonstrate this competency as we work with clients, the community, and one another. Diversity is pervasive, and the workplace provides an especially challenging environment to test one’s skills. The benefit here is by having leaders better understand their own beliefs, they will be better able to address methods to support others and value one another’s similarities and differences. Some issues of diversity are obvious, while others may not be so transparent. Every problem does not have a clear-cut solution but by working under the assumption of positive intent and mutual respect, open communication will help to dissolve fears and concerns that might otherwise become wide gaps of misunderstanding.

    1)  Understand the meaning of culture, competence, and cultural competence.

    2) Discover specific behaviors that lead to stronger relationships.

    3)  Identify where and when there are opportunities to be more culturally competent at work.
