Marlo Thomas-Calloway, SHRM-CP/PHR


Marlo has over 20 years of human resources experience in local city, state and federal governments. She currently works as Career Transition Trainer and has conducted Department of Labor training courses for over 8,500 transitioning military professionals. She continues her passion for human resource development as an Adjunct Professor with Tidewater Community College. 

In addition, she has served as a board member for the local Hampton Roads Society of Human Resource Management and SEVA Association of Talent Development (formerly ASTD) for 10 years each. Marlo received her undergraduate degree in Human Resources from Strayer University and holds a Masters in Human Resource Management from Troy University. As the founder of Ms. MentorMe, The Career Coach, her passion is for helping others achieve their professional wealth through career development.

Marlo provides career coaching, training development and human resources services to individuals as well or corporations. Her goal is to help build strong-minded talented professionals that can actively contribute to their industry of choice.

Shari Carrithers


Shari is an experienced Training Manager with 14 years experienced and a demonstrated history of working in the financial services industry. Skilled in Training & Development, Instructional Design, Management, Coaching, Team Building, and Mortgage Subservicing.

Strong professional with a Bachelors focused in Adult Education & Management from Old Dominion University. Shari leads and develops corporate training programs. Manages a team of 10 (Training Specialists, Instructional Designers, and Training Coordinator) across two sites. She serves as SharePoint Designer/Administrator and Director Administrator.

VP of Programs 

Mary is an experienced Executive Assistant to the Dean in the College of Engineering and Technology (BCET) at Old Dominion University with 19 years’ experience working with high level executives in higher education. She is skilled in Training & Development, Instructional Design, Planning & Analysis, Design & Development, and Implementation & Management.

Mary develops training documents, infographics, videos and programs for college. She also manages a team of 4 (Administrative Assistant and student workers), coordinates meetings and events for the BCET leadership team (2 Associate Professors and 2 Assistant Professor) and serves as the SharePoint designer administrator and Midas group management administrator for the college.

Mary is a strong professional with a master’s degree, focused on Business and Industry Training in Occupational and Technical Studies from Old Dominion University.

Kris Manwaren, SPHR-SHRM=SCP

VP of Talent Management

Kris has distinguished herself by successfully serving more than  20 years in various facets of Human Resources  for public and private employers. Kris is a strong proponent for continual development of technical and professional competence.  She has mentored young professionals on achieving certifications to enhance their career. Additionally, Kris has selflessly served on the Board of Directors to support Hampton Roads SHRM events.

She served as the Programs Director ensuring a variety of monthly program topics to engage members at various levels of expertise and education. All program topics were certified through HRCI allowing for continuing education credits. Her dependability and passion for the development of others enabled her to continue with this professional group in the capacity of President-Elect, President, and President Emeritus. Her superb organizational and leadership skills, experiences, and enthusiasm make Kris Manwaren an indispensable team member who is willing to reach beyond the expected to show others what is truly possible through collaboration.

Kris received a Master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on Personnel Management from Troy University. She also maintains designations as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and another as Society of Human Resources Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). 

Kathy Taylor 

VP of Marketing 

Education and training professional with over 20 years’ experience in providing coaching and consulting assistance to diverse populations. Proven ability to effectively collaborate with individuals, groups, and businesses, whose emphasis is on government contracts, community outreach, non-profits, and corporate partnership programs. 
Through public events, online courses, private coaching, consulting and mentoring, Kathy teaches real-world, applied and achievable strategies. When clients approach a crossroads and realize it’s time for a personal change or a business transformation, Kathy equips them with the skills and confidence to meet or exceed their goals. She gives the support and accountability necessary to keep clients focused and on track.
A self-proclaimed, lifelong learner, Kathy constantly engages in continuing education courses and other programs to stay on top of the latest information as well as proven strategies for achieving personal success. Kathy received her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Norfolk State University, completed the Women’s Business Entrepreneur program hosted by The ODU Women’s Center from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and obtained her Coaching Certificate from The Life Coaching Training Institute. Kathy is currently enrolled in the Foundations of Faith Leadership Institute — a two-year intense leadership training created by Leadership Training International and hosted by Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church in Norfolk, Va. 

Karen Holman 

VP of Membership 

Karen has over 25 years of experience in training and adult education. She has held positions as Counselor and Adjunct Instructor at Virginia Wesleyan University for 12 years and as Assistant Vice-President of Operations and Training for Liberty Tax Service for 9 years.

She is currently the owner of 2 businesses: Green Oak Consulting, which provides operations and training assistance to companies; and Learning Curve, LLC which provides general and specialized workshops, seminars and team building to organizations of all sizes.

Karen holds a B.S in Psychology and a M.S. Ed. In Counseling from Old Dominion University. She is also MBTI certified and hold certificates of Instructional Design and Consulting from ATD.
